Useful Orthokeratology FAQs

Great answers to your orthokeratology questions

What is orthokeratology (ortho-k)?

Orthokeratology, also known as ortho-k, is a temporary fix for myopia. Common symptoms of myopia include not being able to see distant objects clearly, squinting, eye strain, and headaches. Ortho-k uses a special contact lens called a rigid gas permeable (RGP) to temporarily reshape your cornea while you're asleep.

Is ortho-k permanent?

No. You can reverse the effects of ortho-k.

How long does it take for ortho-k to start working?

Ortho-k can start working right away. Some patients may be able to see clearly within a single night of wearing the RGP lenses.

Will I be able to see while wearing my ortho-k lenses?

Yes, you'll still be able to see while wearing your ortho-k lenses.

Are ortho-k vision lenses difficult to put on and take off?

No. Our patient and friendly staff will teach you how to handle your lenses. Little children are able to handle their lenses every night.

Q: What is the age range for doing the Ortho-k treatment?

A: 6 years old to adult.
